It's been a year

Today's shoe is the kid suede "Volta" half d'Orsay with gold metal trim by Jerome C. Rousseau in 2010. Want to see what it looks like?
Today is the one year anniversary of my blog. I can't believe I'm actually still here, it's incredible! I usually don't stick to something once I start it, but I wasn't expecting to love the world of fashion blogging as much as I do.
Is this where I have to say something deeply profound and thought-provoking? I don't think there's anything to say about this past year that deserves that pretty expectant title, though maybe it just didn't happen yet. (I have big dreams, remember?!) There was the time last August when I was invited to the Image Diversity Show by Montreal editor, Patricia Gajo. Now that was heavenly, most definitely something I'll never forget.
"XOXO, Nina" started as "Confessions of a Fashionholic" (because I thought I was important enough to make up new words) and then was called "Nina Morena's Blog," for some time because I seemed to have forgotten about the small amount of creativity in me. Now I have my own custom domain and a perfect name for it; everything is finally settled properly.
It's difficult to put this into words. I feel somewhat accomplished for being determined through all the writer's block and happy because all the feedback has been positive so far. I do remember going through a phase of never writing anything, just posting designer news instead of analyzing it to detail like I do now. I've written too much, too little, went off-topic, posted too many photos, ran out of photo space, freaked out and deleted them all. Have I found a better balance by now? Of course Polyvore sets were always a big part of it, to show you my personal style through clothes I don't have access to.
What will I be saying in a year from today? Only time will tell! (I feel terrible typing that overused line, I couldn't think of anything that sounded better.)

XOXO,
Nina

Recuperating

The shoe of this weekend is the dyed cork platform with linen upper by Bally between 1937 and 1940.
Yesterday was so tiring and fun at the same time, I don't know where to start.
My eyes opened around eight in the morning, thanks to my dad's booming voice. I knew I was supposed to be getting ready, I was going to be late, but I didn't care. I rolled over for another forty minutes and dove back into Neverland. When I did wake up again, I found it odd that no one thought to warn me how little time there was to rush out the door. I had to make it to the ceremony of my younger cousin's confirmation. I didn't really want to go, but the nice person in me said I should make some kind of appearance.

Outfit #1: Where? Last seat in the church. What was it? Polka-dotted top and back pants, already put together last summer in Toronto. (I didn't have time to come up with anything better.)
I was never so bored in my life. I am not a religious person. While a priest/bishop/reverend/whatever spoke about some weird journey into enlightenment for an hour, I kept wishing someone's phone would ring and Judas or S&M would be their ringtone, just to see his reaction. Then he started asking the children who were to be confirmed a series of questions. The first: "Do you reject Satan, and all his lies and empty promises?" The kids were expected to look straight forward and answer, "I do."
I don't remember it being like that when I had my confirmation. It was like a cult in there. But I passed the time by replaying Judas is my head the whole time. How can someone reject Satan if they're in love with Judas? Just pointing that out...
An hour an a half later, it was finally over. I was hungry, I had a headache and it was raining nonstop on the way to the car. I will never do that to myself again.

Lots of food and warm pajamas later, my headache still wasn't gone. I couldn't nap either. Atesol was the answer. Then I had to prepare again to pop in at my cousin's house to take some pictures for a few minutes. But I had my escape planned: Olivia's sweet sixteen.
Olivia's house is like a cozy shelter. Once you're in, you won't want to leave. After all the party guests arrived, we got into one of the three vans provided to get to the restaurant. I don't remember the last time so much food was in front of me.
Her parents surprised her with a huge Harry Potter cake. It was too perfect to eat, but of course that feeling didn't last very long.
We were like a friendly Tumblr family, some of us meeting each other in person for the first time. I don't remember if I told you, but Jean Paul Gaultier will be signing autographs at Holt Renfrew in Montreal on June 11th, from two to four pm. (Highlight of my year.)

After the food was over, most of the guests were too tired to go back to Olivia's because it was almost midnight. Another girl was sleeping there, and I tagged along as well for about an hour. All we did was move our full bellies to the couch and flip channels. We went from watching Jessie J and B.O.B perform Price Tag on SNL to catching some parts of Pineapple Express. It was the perfect night. I got home and slept for at least eight an a half hours, now I'm starting to feel better.
I wore the H&M sandals I've been coveting for weeks prior to yesterday, black flared jeans from Simons (skinny ones weren't right this time around) and a frilly white lace top (for which I got some odd looks from my older relatives).

School isn't quite over yet, although there is a mere eight days left of classes. Just in case you've been wondering, I'll let you know what's coming up, as soon as I have more time.

This is taking forever

The shoe of the day is the patterned silk faille flat with ruffle detail from either England or the United States, circa 1790.

I was supposed to start writing my friendly review on StylePage today, but I have my excuses.
This morning I had my prep for my end of the year lab exam. I have to test out electromagnets. Nervous breakdowns surrounding me, I had to stay calm and wonder how the hell to deal with a power source and ammeters that have a million different outlets, and the meaning of each one.
Not to mention, the goggles will ruin my hair. Not good. I also have a runny nose. It always happens that whenever I have to write a lab exam which needs my full concentration, I fall sick and exhausted.
Ethics is always a waste of time. I don't know why teachers keep pushing the topic of relationships. Being a fifteen-year-old is depressing enough, thank you.
In gym, I had to run twenty-four laps around two gyms in less than twenty minutes. I succeeded. I fail to understand why there's a time limit though, because life should not be a race. What if someone is training to be an all-star athlete while the other pulls a sweat just walking up a flight of stairs?
In math we started the review for the finals. Being calm is becoming a foreign concept.

If you're actually still reading after this long list of complaints, I salute you.
On the other hand, I have math homework waiting. The sickening Five Star black notebook haunts my nightmares.

Ugh, I just sneezed four times and gave myself a headache. Lovely.

In a fit of frustration I began ripping all the pages out of my agenda, and I came across a page where Olivia must have written at least six months ago. I actually took a picture of it and posted it here in a post called "Stress Remedies." According to one of the best people I know,

Horse Tranquilizers + 'Ommm' aka Yoga + -_- (Meditation) = 100%

As much as it pains me, I have to break the sad news to you all. My blogging schedule is gone. There is absolutely no way I can continue writing like this until after school ends. In an effort to stay sane, the next bunch of posts are going to be Polyvore sets, still letting you know what the shoe of the day is. And if I get lucky, some time to write as well.

Blogger served as my diary today. Thank you for reading what no one else wants to listen to.

XOXO,
Nina
